Parts of pre-pregnancy preparation are not last-minute. Some vaccinations should be given before conceiving rather than during pregnancy, and some medication changes need time to settle. Having the consultation months ahead rather than weeks is what makes those options available. Lead times for vaccination and medication changes are explained at the consultation. From Wombarra, timing matters: some of what a pre-pregnancy consultation recommends, such as vaccination, needs to happen well before conception rather than alongside it.
