Book a longer appointment. Hormonal health rarely fits into a standard consultation.

History and symptoms. Your GP takes a full historysymptoms, cycle, medical and family history, and what is affecting you most.

Investigations where needed. Thyroid function and other bloods can be collected on site.

Treatment discussion. Your GP explains the options, including menopausal hormone therapy where suitable, and the benefits and risks for you specifically.

Review. Hormonal treatment is reviewed and adjustedan initial script is a starting point, not the end of it.

Our doctors are independent practitioners and set their own fees. Reception can advise the fee policy of the doctor you are seeing, but cannot confirm the exact amount before your visit — your doctor selects the Medicare item number on the day, based on the length and complexity of the consultation. This appointment is longer than a standard consultation, so a higher item number usually applies. Please mention it when booking so enough time is set aside. Pathology is billed separately by the laboratory. Your GP will explain what is being tested and why. Fees are payable on the day by EFTPOS or credit card. We can transmit your Medicare claim electronically so your rebate is returned the same day.

What are your opening hours?
8:30am–4:30pm Monday to Friday, closed public holidays. After hours: Radiodoctor Illawarra 4228 5522 (bulk-billed home visit or telephone), or the Urgent Primary Care Centre at Bulli Hospital 4249 1300.
I need a quick appointment, can you fit me in?
A small number of same-day appointments are set aside — ring reception on 4202 6900. Sick children and pregnant women are prioritised.
What are the best parking options?
Public car parks on Railway Pde, on Station St over the railway bridge, and the large public car park on Church St.
How are fees set?
The doctors are independent practitioners who set their own fees; reception can advise each doctor's fee policy before your visit.
Is menopausal hormone therapy right for me?
That depends on your symptoms, medical history and personal risk factors. Your GP will discuss the benefits and risks in your specific situation.
How long is the appointment?
Longer than a standard consultation. Please mention when booking that it is a menopause or hormonal health appointment.
How often will my thyroid be monitored?
Your GP will set a monitoring interval based on your condition and treatment, with pathology collected on site.
Can I do this by telephone or video?
Our doctors consult by telephone and video as well as face to face. To receive a Medicare rebate you must have seen the doctor in person within the previous 12 months, with some exemptions. Medicare no longer funds telephone consultations longer than 19 minutes, so book a video consultation for a 20-minute appointment.
What hormonal conditions do you manage?
Menopause and perimenopause, and thyroid conditions including underactive and overactive thyroid.
What are common menopause symptoms?
Hot flushes, night sweats, disturbed sleep, mood changes, vaginal dryness and irregular periods are among the most common.
Do you prescribe menopausal hormone therapy (MHT)?
Yes — where appropriate. Your GP will discuss the benefits and risks for your situation.
Is MHT safe?
Suitability depends on your age, symptoms, medical history and personal risk factors. This is a discussion to have with your GP rather than a yes-or-no answer.
What is perimenopause?
The transition leading up to menopause, when hormone levels fluctuate and symptoms often begin — sometimes years before periods stop.
Are there non-hormonal options?
Yes — including lifestyle approaches and non-hormonal medications. Your GP can talk through what suits you.
How is a thyroid problem diagnosed?
Usually with a blood test, alongside your symptoms and examination.
Do I need a long appointment for menopause?
Yes — book a longer appointment so there's time to discuss symptoms and options properly.
Can I discuss this by telehealth?
Many hormonal health consultations work well by phone or video.
