How we deliver

Assessment. Your GP examines the lesion and confirms cryotherapy is appropriatenot every spot should be frozen.

Treatment. Liquid nitrogen is applied during the appointment. It is quick, though briefly uncomfortable.

Aftercare. Your doctor explains how the area will blister, scab and heal, and what to watch for.

Review. Some lesions need more than one treatment. Your GP will arrange review if that applies.

Our doctors are independent practitioners and set their own fees. Reception can advise the fee policy of the doctor you are seeing, but cannot confirm the exact amount before your visit — your doctor selects the Medicare item number on the day, based on the length and complexity of the consultation. Cryotherapy is usually performed within a consultation. Depending on the number and complexity of lesions, a procedure item number may apply. Repeat treatments are charged as further appointments. Fees are payable on the day by EFTPOS or credit card. We can transmit your Medicare claim electronically so your rebate is returned the same day.

What are your opening hours?
8:30am–4:30pm Monday to Friday, closed public holidays. After hours: Radiodoctor Illawarra 4228 5522 (bulk-billed home visit or telephone), or the Urgent Primary Care Centre at Bulli Hospital 4249 1300.
I need a quick appointment, can you fit me in?
A small number of same-day appointments are set aside — ring reception on 4202 6900. Sick children and pregnant women are prioritised.
What are the best parking options?
Public car parks on Railway Pde, on Station St over the railway bridge, and the large public car park on Church St.
How are fees set?
The doctors are independent practitioners who set their own fees; reception can advise each doctor's fee policy before your visit.
Does it hurt?
There is a brief stinging sensation during treatment and the area can be tender afterwards. Most people tolerate it well.
How many treatments will I need?
Some lesions clear after one treatment; others need repeats. Your GP will tell you what to expect for your lesion.
How does the area heal?
The treated area typically blisters, then scabs and heals over one to two weeks. Your doctor will explain aftercare and what warrants a review.
What if the spot is not suitable?
Your GP may recommend a biopsy or excision instead. Both can be arranged at our rooms.
What is cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to freeze and remove skin lesions such as warts and sunspots (solar keratoses).
What can be treated with cryotherapy?
Warts, solar keratoses and some other precancerous or benign skin lesions. Your GP will assess whether it's suitable.
What happens to the skin afterwards?
The treated area typically becomes red, may blister, then scabs and heals over one to three weeks.
Is there any aftercare?
Keep the area clean and dry, don't pick at scabs, and follow the aftercare advice given at your appointment.
Will it leave a scar?
Cryotherapy usually heals well, though it can occasionally leave a lighter patch of skin, particularly on darker skin tones.
Can I have it done at the same visit as a skin check?
Often yes — mention it when booking so enough time is allowed.
