Results consultation. Results are explained in a follow-up appointment, with their implications for you and your family.

Referral where needed. If a familial cancer risk is identified, your GP can refer you for BRCA testing and specialist genetic counselling.

Our doctors are independent practitioners and set their own fees. Reception can advise the fee policy of the doctor you are seeing, but cannot confirm the exact amount before your visit — your doctor selects the Medicare item number on the day, based on the length and complexity of the consultation. Many genetic tests are not covered by Medicare and carry a significant out-of-pocket cost. Your GP will explain the likely cost before any test is arranged. Your GP can also discuss the wider implications of genetic testing, including questions patients often raise about insurance. Fees are payable on the day by EFTPOS or credit card. We can transmit your Medicare claim electronically so your rebate is returned the same day.

I need a quick appointment, can you fit me in?
A small number of same-day appointments are set aside — ring reception on 4202 6900. Sick children and pregnant women are prioritised.
What are the best parking options?
Public car parks on Railway Pde, on Station St over the railway bridge, and the large public car park on Church St.
How are fees set?

Can I be referred for BRCA testing?
Yes. Where your history indicates a familial cancer risk, your GP can arrange referral.
What genetic testing do you offer?
Pre-pregnancy (reproductive) carrier screening, pharmacogenomic testing, testing for lactose intolerance, coeliac genotyping, and haemochromatosis screening for people at risk. We can also refer for BRCA testing.
What is reproductive carrier screening?
A test that checks whether you and your partner carry genetic conditions that could be passed to a child — usually done before or early in pregnancy.
What is pharmacogenomic testing?
Testing that looks at how your genes affect your response to certain medications, which can help guide prescribing.
Who should consider haemochromatosis screening?
People with a family history of haemochromatosis, or with iron studies suggesting iron overload.
Do I need genetic counselling?
For some tests, yes — your GP will advise and can refer you.
