How it works

How we deliver

Initial consultation. Your GP examines the area and confirms whether a procedure is appropriate, and which one.

Book the procedure. Minor procedures are booked as a separate, longer appointment.

Consent and anaesthetic. The procedure and its risks are explained, consent is taken, and local anaesthetic is used where required.

The procedure. Performed at our rooms, with our practice nurse assisting.

Aftercare and results. You will receive wound-care instructions, an appointment to remove sutures if needed, and a follow-up to discuss any pathology result.

Our doctors are independent practitioners and set their own fees. Reception can advise the fee policy of the doctor you are seeing, but cannot confirm the exact amount before your visit — your doctor selects the Medicare item number on the day, based on the length and complexity of the consultation. Procedures have their own Medicare item numbers and an out-of-pocket cost may apply. Pathology on any specimen is billed separately by the laboratory. Your GP will explain the likely cost at the initial consultation. Fees are payable on the day by EFTPOS or credit card. We can transmit your Medicare claim electronically so your rebate is returned the same day.

What are your opening hours?
8:30am–4:30pm Monday to Friday, closed public holidays. After hours: Radiodoctor Illawarra 4228 5522 (bulk-billed home visit or telephone), or the Urgent Primary Care Centre at Bulli Hospital 4249 1300.
I need a quick appointment, can you fit me in?
A small number of same-day appointments are set aside — ring reception on 4202 6900. Sick children and pregnant women are prioritised.
What are the best parking options?
Public car parks on Railway Pde, on Station St over the railway bridge, and the large public car park on Church St.
How are fees set?
The doctors are independent practitioners who set their own fees; reception can advise each doctor's fee policy before your visit.
Will it hurt?
Local anaesthetic is used where required. Your doctor will explain what to expect before starting.
Will I need stitches removed?
If sutures are used, an appointment is made to remove them. Your doctor will tell you when.
When will I get my results?
If a specimen is sent for pathology, your doctor will arrange a follow-up to discuss the result with you.
Can I drive afterwards?
For most minor procedures under local anaesthetic, yes. Your doctor will tell you if that is not the case for your procedure.

Usually yes — procedures are booked separately so enough time is allowed.
Is local anaesthetic used?
Yes — the area is numbed first, so you shouldn't feel pain during the procedure.
Will I have stitches?
Often yes, depending on the procedure. You'll be given a date to have them removed.
How long is recovery?
Most people return to normal activity quickly, though you may need to avoid heavy exercise or swimming while healing.
Is the tissue tested?
Anything removed for diagnostic reasons is sent to pathology, and your GP will discuss the results with you.
Will there be a scar?
Any procedure that cuts the skin leaves some mark. Your GP will discuss the likely result beforehand.
