How it works

How we deliver

Check your eligibility. Reception or your GP can confirm whether you fall within an assessment age group.

Book a long appointment. Health assessments take considerably longer than a standard consultation.

Nurse pre-assessment. Our practice nurse may complete measurements and background questions before you see the doctor.

Your GP assessment. Your doctor reviews the findings with you, examines you where needed, and identifies risks worth acting on.

Your plan. You leave with agreed actionswhich may include referrals, pathology, a care plan or a recall.

Our doctors are independent practitioners and set their own fees. Reception can advise the fee policy of the doctor you are seeing, but cannot confirm the exact amount before your visit — your doctor selects the Medicare item number on the day, based on the length and complexity of the consultation. Health assessments have their own Medicare item numbers. Your GP will confirm your eligibility and explain any out-of-pocket cost before the appointment. This appointment is longer than a standard consultation, so a higher item number usually applies. Please mention it when booking so enough time is set aside. Fees are payable on the day by EFTPOS or credit card. We can transmit your Medicare claim electronically so your rebate is returned the same day.

What are your opening hours?
8:30am–4:30pm Monday to Friday, closed public holidays. After hours: Radiodoctor Illawarra 4228 5522 (bulk-billed home visit or telephone), or the Urgent Primary Care Centre at Bulli Hospital 4249 1300.
I need a quick appointment, can you fit me in?
A small number of same-day appointments are set aside — ring reception on 4202 6900. Sick children and pregnant women are prioritised.
What are the best parking options?
Public car parks on Railway Pde, on Station St over the railway bridge, and the large public car park on Church St.
How are fees set?
The doctors are independent practitioners who set their own fees; reception can advise each doctor's fee policy before your visit.
Am I eligible?
Medicare-supported health assessments are available to patients aged 45–49 and those aged 75 and over. Reception or your GP can confirm.
How long does it take?

Often yes — our registered nurse may complete part of the assessment before you see the GP.
What happens with the results?
Your GP discusses the findings with you and agrees a plan, which may include tests, referrals or a care plan.
